Phantom
March 18 - April 23
SYNOPSIS - Musical
Tony award winning authors of Titanic and Grand Hotel, Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit have transformed Gaston Leroux’s “The Phantom of the Opera” into a sensation that enraptures audiences and critics with its epic and passionate tale of murder, intrigue and romance!
Phantom is faithful to Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel, “The Phantom of the Opera”, which tells the heartbreaking story of a disfigured musical genius who falls in love with the voice and beauty of a street singer who becomes his protégé. This exhilarating story will captivate theatergoers of all ages!
Yeston and Kopit’s story and original music explore in depth the characters and story of the classic novel. The disfigured Phantom recluse, Erik, meets a chorus girl, Christine, and becomes her music tutor in the catacombs of a Paris opera house. Erik’s passion for Christine and her voice lead him to reveal his desires for her and for the opera house in violent ways. His tragic life of parental abandonment and public humiliation are portrayed throughout the story and lead to his mad descent.
SPECIAL NOTE:
The touring company of Fiddler on the Roof has elected to extend their tour into 2014 and has withdrawn the rights to amateur companies, including Artisan Center Theater.
Fiddler on the Roof will be replaced with the American version of the “Phantom of the Opera” story which provides additional insight into the characters’ pasts with original music. This mesmerizing version of Phantom is traditional musical theatre in the finest sense.
