Artisan Center Theater is looking for a SHOP FOREMAN. 

This is a full-time position to the right candidate.

 

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Technical Director, the Shop Foreman serves as chief carpenter and fabricator of scenery, is the immediate supervisor of the shop technicians, and serves as collaborator with the Technical Director and Designers in sharing ideas and methods of producing scenery and making that scenery operational. 

 

Shop Foreman Responsibilities:

 

  • Implementing and maintaining safety standards with regard to work in the scene shops, performance spaces and storage areas. 
  • Assist in the construction and mounting of stage scenery for all productions and special projects. 
  • Overseeing good and safe day-to-day working conditions in the scene shop construction area and other work area and the general appearance of those areas. 
  • Upkeep and maintain PPE equipment inventory. And make suggestions to the Technical Director for new safety equipment. 
  • Issuing daily work assignments to all shop personnel and in association with the Technical Director, ensuring shop schedules are met. 
  • Along with other Technical Staff members, instructing and working with volunteers in areas of set construction and operation and care of scenery. 
  • Be available after hours for emergency trouble shooting and repairs of scenery and stage equipment as needed. 
  • In association with other scene shop staff members, ensure secure storage and proper use of Artisan Center Theater property. 
  • Immediate supervision of technicians & volunteers during load ins. 
  • Assist in post-production strike and storage/disposal of scenic elements. 
  • Conduct shop orientation of new technicians & volunteers to ensure safety and shop procedures are being adhered to on a daily basis during their residence. 
  • As production build schedules allow, assist other departments in non-production related technical tasks i.e. Gala, Fashion Show, Awards Night, outdoor displays, lobby displays and Volunteer Picnic preparation, etc. 
  • Conduct inventory of shop supplies on timely basis and inform Technical Director of needed supplies.
  • Conduct inventory of shop hand and powers tools and inform Technical Director of any missing or broken tools in a timely manner.
  • Submitting in timely fashion, all shop expenditures to the Technical Director. 

 

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to work long hours and work with a flexible schedule. 
  • May have to work at heights, around moving machinery, and with exposure to noise, vibration, and dust. 
  • Must be willing to travel and work at various sites. 
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions while using the appropriate safety procedures. 
  • Ability to work safely in an environment containing potentially hazardous electrical equipment, fumes, and/or materials. 

 

Physical Demands:

  • This position may move/carry theatrical scenery, wood and steel deliveries, load scenery onto and off trucks weighting up to 50 pounds. 
  • This position will need to frequently communicate withstaff in a noisy shop and theater environment. 
  • This position will need to ascend/descend machinery used and scenery created for the production. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre or equivalent experience. 
  • Excellent skill level in carpentry and metals fabrication. 
  • Good organizational and supervisory skills. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Willingness to adapt to a very flexible work schedule.
 
Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of the theatre process – production and technical as well as performance.
  • Ability to work productively under severe time pressures and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of scenery and structural design, engineering, and construction process and styles, elements and practices – i.e. proscenium, thrust, arena, black box; wood, metal, plastic, adhesives; construction, painting, purchasing, rigging, CAD, etc.
  • Knowledge of mechanical physics, fundamental electricity, modern construction practices/materials, and stage crafts including rigging, lighting, and stage carpentry.
  • Use power and hand tools accurately and effectively.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience shop foreman in a producing theatrical venue or scenic studio.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Experience working in a scene shop of a regional theatre.
  • Understanding of AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or otherCAD software.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license by time of employment. 
  • Ability to work well with people.
  • Has personal and professional integrity and an exemplary work ethic.

Artisan Center Theater is looking for a WARDROBE SUPERVISOR. 

This is a full-time position to the right candidate.

*Costume Design, if desired, would be eligible for an additional stipend.


Job Summary: The Wardrobe Supervisor (a full-time hourly position) is responsible for ensuring smooth running performances of every production, which includes; changing, quick changing, maintaining and continuing consistency with the original costume design; working with the Costume Shop Manager to identify needs for supplies, equipment, materials, and training wardrobe crew as needed. The Wardrobe Supervisor is responsible for every costume from the time they leave the Costume Shop at the beginning of tech/dress rehearsals until the production closes, which includes laundering, cleaning, and maintenance during the performance run, and return to the Costume Shop at the end of the scheduled production run. 

Wardrobe Supervisor Responsibilities: 

  • Works with Costume Designer to create running lists for each production 
  • Works with Costume Designer to create costume plots for each actor in a production 
  • Conducts orientation for each wardrobe crew member when applicable.
  • In collaboration with Costume Shop Manager assigns specific duties to all wardrobe crew members. 
  • Communicates and coordinates with Stage Management any show related needs including but not limited to entrance and exit plots, costume presets and run of show needs. 
  • Sets wardrobe crew work-call for every performance in coordination with the production schedules as needed. 
  • Supervises all Volunteers that are required for wardrobe related production needs. 
  • Dresses actors or facilitates quick changes for any actor as needed. 
  • Attends specific run-thru and technical/dress rehearsals. 
  • Reviews each costume with Costume Designer, Costume Design Assistant, and Costume Shop Supervisor to understand and “know” the entire show.
  • Attends all Costume Shop meetings as required. 
  • Coordinates show strikes for costumes, laundry, and restocking costumes into storage. 
  • Assist in the costume shop as needed and as skills apply. 
  • Performs other related work as required. 


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of all aspects of the theatre process, including but not limited to production, technical, costume construction, and costume repair. 
  • Excellent communication skills – written, oral, visual. 
  • Strong organizational skills. 
  • Strong computer skills. 
  • Ability to work productively under severe time pressures and meet deadlines. 
  • Extensive knowledge of clothing and theatrical practices. 
  • Thorough understanding of the costume design and construction processes and all the related aspects, and how they relate to the overall theatre production process. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, or: equivalent transferable skills from other training with 2-3 years of professional experience in a similar position. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and volunteers, and to staff and volunteers with disabilities. 
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for transportation to and from business-related events.

  • This position will need to transverse multiple levels of scenery, and backstage areas to assist and oversee costume needs for each production. 
  • This position will regularly handle a variety of fabric and costumes which will be a variety of textures and finishes 
  • This position will need to handle fabric and costumes weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • This position will be required to communicate with staff and volunteers on the proper method and practices of theatrical costumes and professionalism.

Artisan Center Theater is looking for STAGE MANAGERS.

This is a stipend position to the right candidate.

 

Stage Manager Job Summary: is a key position in any successful theater production. The position has a unique function because it serves the dual function of assistant to the director and production staff during the rehearsal period and then becomes the person in charge of the production during the actual performance.

 

Stage Manager Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Producer, Technical Associate and Production Staff during pre-production

  • Manages rehearsals under the Director and Choreographer

  • Sends updates to everyone on the Production Team

  • Manages the logistics of the artistic creation of the event and the production staff

  • Runs the show and oversees the cast and crew during the run of the event

  • Responsible for seeing that the event is executed within the vision of all artists involved

  • Works with the entire event team to maintain a positive, enjoyable, and rewarding environment for all actors and patrons

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Guest Services Representative Job Summary: Job of the Guest Services Representative is to answer phones and help guests with ticket sales, orders, will call preparations, donations, season tickets and daily financial reports.

 

Guest Services Representative Responsibilities:

  • Work box office and take reservations on a daily basis

  • Pick up phone/email messages and return calls

  • Daily reconciliation of sales and close-out

  • Data base maintenance

  • Pre-show ticket prep

  • Attend Guest Services meetings 

  • Help with general office organization

  • Process season ticket orders
