SUMMER MUSICAL THEATRE INTENSIVES


 

Be immersed in a full-day camp, six days per week, developing technique with elective classes in singing, dancing, and acting, in addition to taking part in a full-scale musical production. Study with professionals and University Professors! Students will be placed in small groups (by age) with an assigned Counselor to assist and supervise the group at all times. Multiple classes in multiple rooms with a full detailed schedule each day to give you the skills you need to succeed in Musical Theatre. Two summer intensives serving all ages!

Come take part in this award-winning adaptation of the classic romantic tragedy, "Romeo and Juliet." The feuding families become two warring New York City gangs—the Jets and the Sharks. Is the love affair between former Jets leader Tony, and Maria, sister to Sharks' leader Bernardo, doomed to failure? Performances on Artisan's Main Stage.

THE LION KING JR.

Disney's The Lion King has captivated the imagination of audiences around the world and now, you have the opportunity to take part in this one-of-a-kind musical. The African savannah comes to life with Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle... and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale. This summer camp intensive will conclude with ten performances on Artisan's Second Stage.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL

Troy Bolton, the star athlete at a small-town high school, falls for nerdy beauty Gabriella Montez at a holiday karaoke party. When they return to campus, Troy and Gabriella audition for the upcoming school musical. Meanwhile, the jealous Sharpay Evans conspires to squelch their chances. The two must struggle to make it to auditions while also meeting their existing obligations to the basketball team and the academic decathlon.

 

 

MADAGASCAR

Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

 

 

HAIRSPRAY

It’s 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, and quirky, plus-sized, teenage Tracy Turnblad has one dream: to dance on The Corny Collins Show. Overnight, Tracy transforms from a nobody into a star! She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network... all without denting her 'do!

TECHNIQUE WORKSHOPS


 

One-week intense, technique workshops, honing in on acting, singing or dancing. Rather than just being in another production, take the time to focus on building technique in what you already love to do!

 

 

ON BROADWAY!

Camp: June 4–8

Monday-Friday, 1pm–4pm

Ages: 8–18

 

A week-long musical theatre camp, culminating with a Broadway Revue featuring what you do best! The performance will include some solos, duets and some group numbers working together as a triple threat ensemble, singing, dancing, and acting in production numbers from various Broadway musicals.

 

Cost: $200, plus $50 registration fee.

 

MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE

Choreographer: Dawson Graham

Camp: June 11–15

Monday–Friday, 9am–12pm

Ages: 10–18

 

Daily workshops in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Modern dance and how each is dance form is utilized in musical theatre. Work on becoming a well-rounded technical dancer. Put your skills to the test when we culminate with a Broadway style, musical theatre dance, mock audition.

 

Cost: $175, plus $50 registration fee.

 

ACTING IMPROVISATION

Camp: July 2–6 (no camp on Wednesday, July 4)

Two camps: 9am–12pm (AM) or 1pm–4pm (PM), Monday–Friday

Ages: 11–18

 

A full week intensive of acting improvisation. Utilize the most effective technique actors have, that of improvisation. Free the natural actor within yourself, overcome your fears, get outside of your comfort zone and learn how to make strong choices. If you commit yourself to this camp, it will change your life, in all aspects of everything you do!

 

Cost: $150, plus $50 registration fee.

 

ACTING THROUGH SONG!

Camp: July 23–27

Monday–Friday, 1–4pm

Ages: 12 & UP

 

Study the meat of musical theatre… how to act a song. Discover techniques of musical theatre performance including audition techniques, choosing material, working with an accompanist, lyric and score analysis, character development, subtext, and connecting to the material, while maintaining good vocal technique.

ACTING 101

Learn the basic skills, fundamental to success in acting including improvisation, skills in voice and movement, script analysis, listening & reacting, and scene work.

 

BROADWAY 101

Learn the basic skills, fundamental to success in musical theatre, of acting, singing and dancing in an ensemble.

 

DANCE 101

Choreographer: Alison Borish

Camp: July 16–20, 9am–12pm (Ages: 5–8), Monday–Friday

 

Learn the basic skills, fundamental to success in dance, which include rhythm for tap, coordination in jazz, core strength for modern, and flexibility and technique for ballet. Developing kinesthetic awareness to help the body multi-task when learning choreography.

 

SINGING 101

Two camps: 9am–12pm (Ages: 5–8) or 1pm–4pm (Ages: 9–12), Monday–Friday

 

Learn the basic skills, fundamental to success in singing, including basic music theory, basic vocal technique with projection and diction, and essential performance skills.

TECHNICAL THEATRE WORKSHOPS


 

INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL THEATRE

Director: Steve Skidmore

Camp: June 25–29

Monday–Friday, 9am–12pm

Ages: 14 to Adult

 

Ever wondered how the magic works backstage?! Come learn about everything technical in the theater and leave feeling comfortable to begin working on a tech crew as a stage hand, or Assistant Stage Manager, or serving in a variety of other capacities. Learn special effects, working in a scene shop, operating lighting and sound equipment, theatrical computer software programs, and basic skills of stage management.

 

 

STAGE MANAGER PRO

Camp: July 9–13

Monday–Friday, 1pm–4pm

Ages: 14 to Adult

 

Whether you have a lot of experience or are just getting started in Stage Management, this workshop is a must! Take an in-depth look at what it takes to be a successful, professional production stage manager. Learn how to organize a show and keep things running smoothly from pre-production through strike. Students will be instructed on how to effectively communicate across disciplines, manage rehearsals/performances, maintain production reports, create a prompt book, call a show and much more!
